When it comes to Title 24 and HERS Rating or inspections, things can get a bit confusing. We are here to clear up any frequent questions you may have with this matter and our other services.

What is Title 24?

California’s energy code is designed to reduce wasteful and unnecessary energy consumption in newly constructed and existing buildings. The California Energy Commission updates the Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24, Parts 6 and 11) every three years by working with stakeholders in a public and transparent process. Here in California, all Title 24s need to be registered to a supported agency that is appointed by the California Energy Commission. Currently, these entities are CHEERS and CalCERTS.

Who is a HERS Rater? And What Do They Test or Inspect?

What is a HERS Rater (Home Energy Rating System Rater)? An individual who is certified by an accredited Rating Provider to inspect and test a home in order to evaluate each of the minimum rated features and complete a Home Energy Rating according to the California Energy Commission.

Their inspection consists of field verification of installed products and equipment that complies with the State of California. These field inspections include Insulation, HVAC testing, duct leakage test, indoor air quality, exhaust fan, and fan watt efficacy.

Are HERS Raters Certified?

Absolutely, currently, there are two agencies that certify HERS Raters in the state of California. They are CHEERS & CalCERTS. Here at Multipoint Development, we want to make things simpler and easy for you. So, we are certified to work with both agencies.

How long does a HERS Rating or an Inspection Last?

Inspections typically last about an hour to two hours. It can take more depending on how extensive the test is and the size of the home.

What Is an Energy Audit?

An energy audit is an inspection survey and an analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building. It may include a process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output. We use the latest equipment and training to be able to point out any negative factors contributing to your higher-than-normal energy bill.
